Every #jazz #band, and every repeat/dedicated #audience member, appreciates new repertoire, and especially challenging and/or authentic music. The difficulty is finding the rehearsal time when your band is working on a regular basis. When you are polishing music for the next paying gig, it is hard to squeeze in time to work a song from the foundation up. However, you must if the band is to grow and thrive. The best you can do, as a director, is choose repertoire that you think will fit the band and will move quickly through the development process, so that those rare, spare moments can be used wisely.
